Expert on British Intelligence - author Helen Fry
Helen Fry one of the recognized expert on the full spectrum of British intelligence activities and the anti-Nazi role of the Belgian resistance during World War II. She presented her latest book, MI9: A History of the Secret Service for Escape and Evasion in World War Two to a rousing large group of followers. Her marvelous book tells the stories of the Belgian escape networks that saved downed Allied pilots from capture or help them evade capture all the way to Spain. She happily autographed copies of her books at the event. The event was attended by government officials, leaders of various Belgian veterans organizations, and concerned citizens.
Helen was also our luncheon guest at the Club Prince Albert dinning room in Brussels. The memory of those heroic Belgians she told us about is preserved by the Fraternelle des Agents Parachutistes, located in Chatelain, where we normally meet.
The success of the the Dutch Resistance to the Nazi Occupation, 1940-1945 was depended on finding financial support for thousands of demobilzed Dutch soldiers and workers hiding from officals who wanted to deport them for forced labour in Germany, for the families of merchant seamen that could not return from overseas, for the Jewish familes in hidding, for the families of 15,000 rail workers on strike, and for the members of the underground engaged in propaganda, intelligence work and sabotage.
