Mission and Purpose

Education

When we know our history, we are usually better positioned to avoid past mistakes, and sometimes those mistakes can be oppression and horrible wars. Our mission is to learn, educate, and act as informed citizens to preserve democracy, self-determination, justice, peace, and freedom in response to the challenges of our era.

Future Book Talks

See the Book Talks page. You may also suggest an author, a book, a discussion topic, and volunteer to lead a discussion. Our focus is primarily on Belgian history as it relates to the Napoleonic campaigns, the creation of Belgium, African colonialism, World Wars I & II, resistance to oppression, foreign occupation, allied operations, intelligence, and the Cold War.

Dues and donations

We plan, organize, and conduct our book talks and site visits with goodwill, cooperation with other groups, and the voluntary contributions of our time and talents to the greater good.

We expect each participant to pay their own bar and dinner bills. If you want to pay for the bar/dinner bill of a guest speaker please inform the event sponsor or host.

Fraternelle des Agent Parachutistes

The club-like home of the Fraternelle des Agents Parachutistes (FAP)  is also a museum of resistance memorabilia. If you appreciate their generosity in allowing us to meet at the FAP Maison, you may contribute towards providing copies of their La Guerre Secrete history of the Belgian WWII Secret Agents to Belgian schools and libraries,

Productive recycling of books

What do we do with our personal book libraries when we have to move, downsize, or die? Some societies, like the Fraternelle des Agents Parachutistes, are willing to receive donated books that support their specific historical interests. Other possibilities include schools, university history departments, prisons, public libraries, etc.

It is best to identify organizations that are willing to take your donated books before you are desperate to get rid of them.

Otherwise, they will be hauled off to a used bookshop for resale to someone who may not value them as you do.
