Battle of Mons ceremonies
24/08/2026
Battle and Books members attended the Royal British Legion Brussels Chapter's commemorative event, hosted by the City of Mons, marking the arrival of the British Expeditionary Force (BEF) in Belgium during WWI. Under the Schlieffen Plan, the German Army invaded Belgium to separate the French armies from the Belgian forces on the North Sea coast. Although outnumbered 3:1, the BEF arrived just in time to fight and delay the German advance into Mons and onward in their attempt to encircle Paris. We laid wreaths at various battle sites and at the Cimetière germano-britannique de Saint-Symphorien.
