Mission, purpose, and activities

Education
When we know our history, we are usually better positioned to avoid past mistakes, and sometimes those mistakes can be oppression and horrible wars. Our mission is to learn, educate, and act as informed citizens to preserve democracy, self-determination, justice, peace, and freedom in response to the challenges of our era.
Future Book Talks
See the Book Talks page. You may also suggest an author, a book, a discussion topic, and/or volunteer to lead a discussion. Our focus is primarily on Belgian history as it relates to the Napoleonic campaigns, the creation of Belgium, African colonialism, World Wars I & II, resistance to oppression, foreign occupation, allied operations, intelligence, and the Cold War.
.
Dues and donations
We plan, organize, and conduct our book talks and site visits with goodwill, cooperation with other groups, and the voluntary contributions of our time and talents to the greater good.
We expect each participant to pay their own bar and dinner bills. Paying for the bar and/or dinner bills of a guest speaker is always welcome. If you want to do so, inform the event sponsor or host.
Community with the Fraternité des Agents Parachutistes
We are part of a great community of common interests. The Fraternelle des Agents Parachutistes (FAP) has been a great supporter of the club. Their club-like home is also a museum of resistance memorabilia. If you appreciate the generosity of the FAP in allowing us to meet at their maison, you can always gift them at BE40 0000 7733 4763.

Productive recycling of books
What do we do with our personal book libraries when we have to move, downsize, or die? Some societies, like the Fraternelle des Agents Parachutistes, are willing to receive donated books that support their specific historical interests. Other possibilities include schools, university history departments, prisons, public libraries, etc.
It is best to identify organizations that are willing to take your donated books before you are desperate to get rid of them.
Otherwise, they will be hauled off to a used bookshop for resale to someone who may not value them as you do.
Heroes of the Resistance - Helden vh verzet - Belgians who resisted
Stories of extraordinary resistance - ordinary people against the Nazi occupier. Storytelling, plays, resistance cafes, novellas, university-level research at VUB/ULB, and working towards our own Belgian National Resistance Museum.
